First step in the Alloy wheel repair refurbishment process is to chemically strip Alloy wheel to remove all previous paints

Use either Efx strip (cold) or EC Strip (hot)

Wash Alloy wheels to remove any residue


Stage 3. Alloy Wheel Repair Refurbishment

Shot blast Alloy wheels to prepare surface for painting along with any minor repairs. Then put wheels in oven to de-gas for 1 hour@180-200 deg C

Rotil 2 pack high temperature filler

Remove Alloy wheel from oven one at a time and apply the powder primer coat to hot Alloy wheels. Grey powder primer for silver mid coat and black powder primer for darker and chrome mid coat i.e anthracite. Also if a heavier primer coat is needed then use the hi build grey primer to hide minor defects and return to oven to cure as per manufacturer instructions.

Select from the following primer coats:

Grey primer

Black Primer

Grey high Build


Stage 5. Alloy Wheel Repair Refurbishment

Return to Alloy Wheel to oven and full cure 180°c for 10 min metal temperature or as per powder manufacture spec.


Stage 6. Alloy Wheel Repair Refurbishment

Apply water based OEM match mid coat to Alloy wheel when they have cooled to approx. 60°c to 80°c (use laser temperature reader). Best to remove two Alloy wheels at a time from oven. After painting return Alloy wheels to warm oven 60-70°c to dry completely approx 10-15mins.

Please note:

Also at this point you could also use a suitable powder top coat, metallic or any of the AXALTA standard Ral range of colours and if applicable a clear powder lacquer. There are many finishes to choose from and below is a selection. (please contact us for more information on this option.)


Stage 7.

Apply acrylic powder top coat to Alloy Wheel and return to oven and cure at 170°c for 20 mins (Metal temp)

Please ensure equipment is thoroughly cleaned down as acrylic powder not compatible with polyester powder or use separate powder hose or separate dedicated powder gun.
